Previously only available for the Apple iPad, the Netflix movie streaming app is now available for iPhone and iPod Touch users as well.
Netflix made an official announcement today, saying that version 1.1.0 of the Netflix app will now be compatible with any iOS device. That means iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. This makes it possible for anyone with an unlimited Netflix subscription to stream TV shows and movies directly to their device over an internet connection.
"Apple has changed the game for mobile devices," said Reed Hastings, Netflix co-founder and chief executive officer, in a statement. "We're excited that our members can now carry Netflix around in their pockets and instantly watch movies and TV shows streamed from Netflix right to their iPhone or iPod touch."
The Netflix app works over Wi-Fi or 3G connections, and the basic functionality of a media player is included: fast forward, rewind, search, etc. Even if you stop watching a video on one device , say when you reach your destination, it will sync with your account and pick up exactly where you left off, even if it's on another device, say on your computer back at home.
The Netflix app is free and available in the App Store.
