Wii Successor to Make Jaws Drop, Says Nintendo
The follow-up to the supremely popular Nintendo Wii console wont be out for years, but that hasn't stopped Nintendo from setting the hype machine in motion already. According to Nintendo, the Wii 2, or whatever it's called, will blow your mind.
Nintendo game designer Yoshio Sakamoto said in an interview that the "new Nintendo machine will leave you all with your mouth open."
"At Nintendo we always have the obligation to surprise users with a new game console ," Sakamoto said. "We have never done what others have. We prefer to create something new that catches attention , and I think this will continue this time as well."
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has expressed similar goals of surprising customers in the past, but he has also been frustratingly coy about when these surprising consoles will come. Last year, when addressing rumors of a high definition Wii, Iwata said, "If we have an opportunity to make a new console, it will probably support HD because it is now common throughout the world." But, "As for timing," he continued, "it may be three years from now, five years from now or eight years from now."
That's a long time to wait to have your jaw drop. For more immediate results, try looking at reports of Wii sales figures.
