The dual-screen Kno tablet is not only larger than life, it's larger than any other tablet. It's also going to be available by year's end.
The Kno tablet is comprised of two 14-inch touchscreens connected by a hinge . When held, it appears the user has turned an ordinary laptop sideways; it's that big.
The Kno is expected to be big business, too. The company has already received $55 million in investments. Investor Marc Andreessen claims it's the "most powerful tablet anyone has ever made."
While it's certainly the largest, the "most powerful" claim is in dispute. It will run the Tegra 2 processor and have 16GB of storage. While commendable, the Kno certainly won't be the only tablet with those specs .
Kno runs on a special version of Linux, but the touchscreen interface looks very similar to those seen in iPhones and Android devices, just with far more screen real estate. The company wants to have an app store for the device and also focus on providing college textbooks through it. While the Kno tablet is larger than any text book, the added space will be perfect for writing notes and drawing diagrams.
All this is supposed to cost under $1,000 and be available before the end of 2010, according to Kno CEO Osman Rashid, but there is still no official price. The real question is whether 28-inches of touchscreen is worth more than any other tablet on the market and quite a few laptops.
