Science fiction has taught us that nothing says futuristic like a touchscreen keyboard. Apparently Acer has taken this to heart for their future products, judging by leaked images of a dual-screen Acer laptop.
It's basically what you'd expect, a normal folding laptop form but with another screen in place of the keyboard and trackpad. Both displays are 15 inches and touch sensitive. While physical keyboards have some advantages over touchscreen keyboards, the Acer design has the advantage of flexibility. The manufacturer, or even the user, could configure the control scheme however they wanted on the bottom screen and still use multitouch gestures on either display for navigation.
This may be a new trend in electronics as a result of the popularity of tablets. Microsoft was developing the Courier dual-screen tablet, and MSI and Toshiba are both working on similar dual-screen devices .
According to the source, the Acer dual-screen laptop is running an Intel Core i5 2.67GHz processor, which makes sense because two displays would require even more computing power than a standard laptop.
Apparently that's still not enough, as this prototype is reported to be "slow and buggy." As a result, this machine isn't expected to hit stores any time before late 2011.
