Netflix, NBC Universal Deal Brings New Shows to Watch Instantly
A new deal between Netflix and NBC Universal will make many new shows available on the Netflix streaming service Watch Instantly, including everything from "The Office" to "Battlestar Galactica."
"This agreement adds meaningfully to the wide variety of content that can be streamed from Netflix and breaks new ground in our relationship with NBC Universal," said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer for Netflix, in a company statement.
"We applaud Netflix for recognizing the value of content like 'SNL,' 'Friday Night Lights,' 'Monk,' and 'Battlestar Galactica' to their subscribers," said Frances Manfredi, executive vice president and general sales manager at NBC Universal, in the same statement.
This means more than just NBC shows will be available. The range of content comes from other NBC Universal holdings, including cable channels.
That includes every past episode of shows such "Psych" and "Friday Night Lights," the entire last season of "30 Rock," "The Office" and "Law & Order: SVU" and a wide selection of episodes from shows such as "Saturday Night Live," "Battlestar Galactica" and "Eureka."
Other available shows include "Access Hollywood," "Access Hollywood Live," "The Jerry Springer Show," "Maury," "The Steve Wilkos Show," "The Chris Matthews Show," "The Wall Street Journal Report with Maria Bartiromo," "House," "Law & Order," "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," "Monk" and "The Real Housewives" franchise.
This all falls under the standard Watch Instantly program that is part of the $8.99/month Netflix subscription. NBC Universal content becomes available starting next week.
