Dell 7-inch Tablet Coming in "Next Few Weeks," 10-inch Later
When Dell hinted last week that they would release a 7-inch tablet "very soon," they weren't kidding. A Dell executive said the launch would occur in the "next few weeks," with a 10-inch tablet following thereafter.
The Wall Street Journal quoted Dell Greater China President Amit Midha saying the 7-inch tablet was only weeks away. Midha also said there were more tablet models on the way.
"In fact, very much in the near future we'll be launching the seven-inch tablet as well as the additional three-inch product," Midha said.
In all, Midha confirmed Dell had plans for 3-inch, 4-inch and 10-inch tablets in the near future, in addition to the impending 7-inch tablet . The 10-inch model is expected to be ready for launch in the next 6-12 months.
Midha also confirmed the 7-inch Dell tablet would run Google's Android operating system, which isn't surprising given that Dell has already used Android in its 5-inch Streak tablet . Apparently Android isn't a given for all Dell tablet's though. The company plans to use Microsoft's Windows operating system on some tablets, according to Midha, though he did not give specifics on which devices. It would be difficult to scale the Windows 7 interface to a 3- or 4-inch screen, so a Windows tablet would likely be closer to the 10-inch model.
