New Pixel Qi Laptop Screen like SPF for Sunlight Computing
Mobile LCD screen innovator Pixel Qi has released a product that combats one of the main obstacles to stress-free outdoor computing – the sun.
On Sept. 28, Pixel Qi, through a partnership with Display Solutions AG, unveiled its “Display Solutions d-screen-Qi10,” a 10-inch tablet-like computer screen that can be plugged in to a laptop or smartphone via USB and is designed for reading in direct sunlight .
The LED-backlit screen supports 1024x600 mode and has two low-power settings: a transflective mode, which uses room light to add to the screen’s brightness, and a black-and-white mode, which allows for text that remains, according to company founder Mary Lou Jepsen, “bright and clear even in direct sunlight.”
Total power consumption of the Pixel Qi screen is 1.5W, meaning the screen is entirely powered by USB, and needs no battery or power adapter. The Pixel Qi screen can also function wirelessly . It is available at Maker Shed for $275.
