HP Making Multiple webOS Phones for Early 2011
A senior official at Hewlett-Packard confirmed rumors that HP would be making smartphones with the Palm webOS operating system, aiming for an early 2011 release.
"You will see us coming early next year with new phones," said Eric Cador, senior vice president at HP during an industry conference in Barcelona, Spain.
Many experts predicted this would happen when the company acquired Palm earlier this year. With the rights to the acclaimed webOS platform, HP hopes to compete in a smartphone market dominated by iPhone and Android devices .
Cador's comments seemed to indicate that HP would bring multiple models of webOS phones to the market, but he did not elaborate. Last month, model numbers for two new Palm smartphones were found in a database, but it's not clear if these are the phones Cador was referring to.
