New App Brings Voice and Texting to iPod Touch, iPad
An updated version of the Line2 app for the iPod Touch and iPad can turn your device into a fully-functioning cell phone, complete with calling, text messaging and conferencing capabilities.
Line2 from Toktumi Inc. originally debuted in February to allow users to make unlimited Wi-Fi calls, but its 3.0 version – which launched last week -- is the first app to allow both calls and unlimited SMS to United States and Canadian numbers. A separate headset is required to use the service.
Two versions are available for download from the iTunes App Store : one that is consumer-based for $9.95 a month and another with more business-related features – such as conferencing and call forwarding – for $14.95 a month.
Users with the newest generation iPod Touch with iOS 4.0 have a built-in microphone in their device so an additional headset is not required.
