Yahoo! Website Temporarily Crashes
Yahoo!'s homepage, one of the most heavily trafficked websites in existence, inexplicably went down earlier today according to multiple user reports that rippled across the rest of the still-functioning World Wide Web.
Starting at about 5:15 P.M. EST, visitors to Yahoo.com received error messages such as "connection timed out." However, Yahoo! Mail and other services remained operational, though users complained of slow load times.
In a statement, Kryssa Guntrum, Yahoo! director of global product communications, said: "For a brief period this afternoon, Yahoo.com was inaccessible to some users. We have identified the issue and are working to correct it immediately. We know that this may have caused some inconvenience and we apologize to our users who might have been affected."
The bug was fixed at approximately 6 P.M. EST, and Yahoo! confirmed the outage should have only affected the homepage.
Yahoo! recently rolled out some upgrades to its search function that runs from the homepage, and some have speculated this might be behind the crash.
