Microsoft Announces 17 Kinect Games for Launch
Microsoft has promised a wide selection of games for the launch of its Kinect motion control system. Today the company revealed just which games those would be, and there are 17 in all.
Seventeen games at the launch of such a major system may seem small at first, but to put it in perspective, the Xbox 360 had 18 games at its own launch. Regardless, retailers are expecting it to be in demand for the next few months.
"The very first time we saw Kinect, we knew it would be a 'must have' item for the holiday season,” said Richard Barry, vice president and general merchandise manager for Toys "R" Us, in a statement.
Microsoft has played a little fast and loose with the definition of "available at launch." While 12 of the games will be available November 4 when Kinect goes on sale , most of the rest all launch two weeks later (one only has a "holiday" launch date).
As expected, the games are mostly Wii-like party games , but there is a smattering of other genres, including sports, action adventure and racing. Microsoft obviously hopes to cash in on the fitness games crowd because four of the games are exercise titles.

Other Kinect games are expected to follow through the holidays, and there are several planned for an early 2011 release.
