Hulu Plus Price May Drop to $5/Month
Hulu Plus, the subscription service that offers access to more TV content than regular Hulu, might see a significant price drop soon.
According to AllThingsDigital, Hulu Plus' $10 per month access fee might be cut in half in order to make the service more attractive to customers. Hulu would charge $5 for the same access to a deeper back catalog of TV show episodes and movies.
Hulu Plus is still technically in testing phase, which means that a price change could be a response to lackluster consumer demand. Currently, other services such as Netflix offer a vast catalog of both TV shows and movies for less than $10 per month, so it shouldn't be surprising that the price was too steep for a less extensive selection on Hulu.
A $5 monthly fee, however, could be cheap enough to attract people. Hulu still struggles to have a wide enough selection of shows to appeal to everyone. ABC, NBC and Fox are the primary content providers, but even the selection of shows from those three networks is surprisingly slim. And good luck finding something from CBS or cable channels (aside from single episodes to promote a new series or season). In order to really make Hulu Plus attractive, Hulu will need to have a wider and more reliable selection of programs.
