The new BD-A1000 Blu-ray disc player, the first universal player from Yamaha, is equipped with built-in features designed to provide home entertainment for years to come.
In the world of Blu-ray players, the term universal refers to the types of discs that can be played. Yamaha’s player is compatible with Blu-ray, DVD-Audio, SACD (super audio CD, a favorite with audiophiles), DVD, CD and 3-D discs.
The Yamaha player also offers Internet connectivity to stream movies from NetFlix , Blockbuster and YouTube. It is also 3-D movie ready, so when it’s time to add a 3-D HD TV, you won’t have to buy a new Blu-ray player to watch films in the third dimension.
The BD-A1000 offers full HD audio decoding including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, along with 7.1 multi-channel analog output for surround sound speakers.
Two USB ports, front and back, allow users to connect other devices such as video cameras and music players. It has support for AVCHD files created with HD camcorders, high resolution JPEG picture files, MP3 files and Windows Media audio and video files.
It comes with its own remote, but Yamaha claims it is easy to program a number of home entertainment components with the device.
The MSRP for the Yamaha BD-A1000 is $699.95, but Amazon lists the “temporarily out of stock” player for $599.99.
