LG Android Tablet Coming Early 2011, Tegra 2 Processor
While LG has pushed back plans to release an Android Tablet, it appears the delay won't be too long. A senior official from the company said the LG Optimus Pad will arrive in the first quarter of 2011.
The company has since indicated that it has no official announcements, but did not deny the rumor.
LG originally pushed back release plans for the LG Pad because the company felt Android wasn't ready for tablets yet. The LG official said the tablet coming in 201 1 will run Android Honeycomb, the version coming after the soon-to-be-released Android Gingerbread (version 3.0), because Honeycomb is specifically designed to accommodate tablets.
The official also confirmed the Optimus Pad will have an 8.9-inch touchscreen display and run a dual-core Tegra 2 processor from NVIDIA. The 9-inch screen will put it squarely between the 10-inch iPad and the 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab in size. The Optimus Pad is supposed to have a more diverse content offering than current tablets, though it's unclear what that means exactly.
