Windows Phone 7 Handsets Now Available
The long wait is over as the first Windows Phone 7 smartphones come available for sale today.
Microsoft has officially released the Windows Phone 7 platform today , meaning that the devices running it can also be sold. Microsoft's online store shows the available smartphones on various carriers, including the HTC HD7 on T-Mobile, the HTC Surround on AT&T and the Samsung Focus on AT&T. The Dell Venue Pro is also supposed to be available on T-Mobile today, although online stores aren't showing it yet.
Most handsets appear to be $200 with a 2-year carrier contract, but there are also deals through other retailers. Amazon wireless sells them for $99 with a service plan and Dell Mobility has listed a price of $149. The LG Quantum is also up for pre-order on Amazon.
Due to the differences in network structure, Windows Phone 7 devices won't work on Verizon or Sprint just yet, although Microsoft is expected to have a version available for these networks soon.
