JooJoo Tablet Is Officially Discontinued, New Tablet Coming
After a long battle against obscurity and legal issues, the JooJoo has finally thrown in the towel. Fusion Garage has announced their tablet has been discontinued.
It might not seem so surprising given that sales have reportedly been very low from the start. Reports indicated that only 90 people pre-ordered the device.
Apparently Fusion Garage hasn't given up on tablets, though. CEO Chandrashekar Rathakrishnan said the company is working on multiple successors to the ill-fated Linux tablet. Rathakrishnan specifically said that the new tablets will be completely new hardware that isn't even backwards compatible with the JooJoo.
The JooJoo tablet was different than current tablets in that it focused on using Web apps to accomplish tasks instead of apps downloaded on the device, like the iPad currently does. Rathakrishnan seemed to express distaste for those "non-web experiences," but he acknowledged that apps on the device are what many people want.
