The new Parrot AR.Drone quadricopter ― that's a helicopter with four blades, ladies ― is controlled by an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
A Wi-Fi connected Apple device displays images from two cameras mounted on the front and on the underside of the craft's hull. A cloverleaf-shaped foam guard protects this flying machine for indoor use and can be removed for outdoor flight. It comes equipped with an ultrasound altimeter that lets the Drone hover.
The multiplayer game, AR.Flying Ace, which is available in the App Store, makes it possible to have a battle between two AR.Drones. Hulls are available in three different colors to easily identify your AR.Drone.
The AR.Drone is made from carbon fiber and high resistance PA66 plastic and has four 3.500 rpm motors. Running speed is 16.4 feet per second with a total flying time of 12 minutes. Allow 90 minutes to charge.
The $300 toy is available online from Amazon and direct from Parrotshipping.com, and can be purchased at Brookstone locations.
