In a way, the so-called Mayan apocalypse is a tribute to technology — the ability of the Internet to spread specious rumors, wild speculation and spoofs thereof. This morning, no less an authority than David Stuart, who deciphered the Mayan language, confirmed to NPR that the Maya never said anything about the world ending.
Whether or not the apocryphal apocalypse is coming, it should have a soundtrack. For that, we humbly suggest this lineup. If you use the music service Spotify, you can click the player on this page to listen, otherwise you can take the list below to the music service or CD shelf of your choice.
Here's hoping there will be a chance for a replay.
1) "It's the End of the World as We Know It" (REM)
2) "The Final Countdown" (Europe)
3)"Eve of Destruction" (Barry McGuire)
4) "Until the End of the World" (U2)
5) "(I'll Love You) Till the End of the World" (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds)
6) "The End of the World" (Skeeter Davis)
7) "Black Hole Sun" (Soundgarden)
8) "Armageddon It" (Def Leppard)
9) "Calamity Song" (The Decemberists)
