Google Editions, the rumored answer to Amazon's Kindle e-book store, may be ready as soon as this month, with somewhere between 400,000 to 600,000 e-books at launch.
The rumor comes from a Bloomberg report that says Google Editions will be ready for a U.S. debut this month and a worldwide launch in early 2011. Google Editions has already seen several delays from its original 2009 release date.
Bloomberg sources say this is directly aimed at stealing marketshare from Amazon, and Google plans to use its dominance in the search market to intercept potential Amazon customers . Google is also negotiating separate revenue sharing deals with each publisher instead of establishing a basic revenue split the way many sellers do.
