Keyboard shortcuts can save you valuable time when working on projects, and we've compiled a list of some of the most common (and useful) Mac keyboard shortcuts available.
On a Mac, keyboard shortcuts are usually a combination of a modifier key and a character key. Here are the modifier key symbols that you may see on an Apple keyboard and in OS X menus.

Starting up and shutting down
Here are some shortcuts for starting up and shutting down. Hold the key or key combination until the function occurs or appears.
If a startup function isn't working, make sure you're using an Apple keyboard and not a third-party keyboard. All of these shortcuts work for both the current Intel-based Macs as well as the older models. However, on the current models — like the Mac mini, MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro — some other advanced shortcuts may be different.
