The "Angry Birds" are about to take their level of ruckus to a whole new medium – board games.
As part of its showcase at the American International Toy Fair 2013, taking place in New York this week, Smart Toys and Games has announced that it has partnered with the popular Rovio-produced franchise to work on a pair of upcoming board games. This isn't the first time the "Angry Birds" have been part of a promotional deal, as everything from fruit snacks to stuffed animals feature their likeness. However, this does mark the first time that an "Angry Birds" game won't focus on the traditional "knock-em-down" objectives.
The first of the two games, "Angry Birds Under Construction," is based on an award-winning Smart Games design that helps strengthen memory. The basics of the game have players solve puzzles by lining up four playing pieces on a board with patterns shown in the included booklet, while simultaneously covering up troublesome pigs that appear on the board. The game will include a built-in storage case, making it ideal for travel, and is set to sell for $18. [See also: Review: The Force Is Strong In "Angry Birds Star Wars]
"Angry Birds On Top," the second game, which focuses on puzzles that challenge you to move five transparent sliding pieces around a board, once again trying to cover up the pigs while avoiding caging your Birds. Puzzle solving is the key skill that's utilized here, with 48 challenges in all to solve. "On Top" is also slated to sell for $18.
No release date has been given yet on these games, but they are expected to release sometime this year. To learn more, visit Smart Toys and Games website.
