Mac App Store Not Launching Until Jan. 2011?
Recent rumors of a December 13 launch for the Mac App Store may turn out to be false according to new sources who say it won't launch until January 2011.
Sources for The Loop have contradicted previous rumors, saying the Mac App Store will not be ready to launch in December .
During its announcement in October, Apple CEO Steve Jobs promised that the Mac App Store would be available within 90 days. It could launch as late as mid-January and still meet that promise.
The Mac App Store is intended to create a market for Mac software similar to the one Apple created for iPhones. Developers can develop apps for Mac computers and sell them through Apple's online store for a 70 percent cut of the revenue. Users would reap the benefits of approved software that will install almost instantaneously and be updated frequently.
Apple has yet to make any official comments on the launch date for the Mac App Store.
