Hundreds of Retailers Offer Free Holiday Shipping Tomorrow
Christmas is just a week away and many consumers may have written off buying online to avoid express shipping fees that could amount to more than the gift itself. But there's one more chance for free shipping with guaranteed in-time delivery.
This Friday, Dec. 17, more than 1,500 retailers are expected to offer free shipping in the third annual Free Shipping Day. Participating stores pledge delivery by Christmas Eve if sent within the continental U.S.
More than 60 percent of participating retailers are offering shipping on all orders, the rest on specified items, according to the latest update on Freeshippingday.com.
Among the big-name retailers participating in 2010's Free Shipping Day are Nordstrom, Cabela's, Crate & Barrel, Apple Store, Circuit City, Sony and Victoria's Secret.
List of retailer offers will be unveiled at midnight.
How-to
- Starting at midnight tonight, visit freeshippingday.com and search for the stores you are interested in purchasing from.
- Check for any restrictions such as a minimum purchase or free shipping on designated only items. Copy the code. You may want to keep a simple list of site, item and code to make it easier to check out.
- Go to the online stores of your choice and make your purchases. Watch for a request for a promo code. When you see it during the checkout process, paste in the appropriate code.
- Double check your final purchase order to make sure it includes free shipping before placing your order.
Back-up plan
Earlier today, freeshipping.com was down and inaccessible from all browsers, which was most likely due to the flurry of online announcements like this one.
Fortunately, the mobile version opened without problem from a smartphone. Click on the browser icon on your phone, select "go to" and type in the url: freeshipping.com. You may have to write down the codes, but at least you'll get free shipping.
