Is Kinect Coming to Computers?
Microsoft condemned and then condoned Kinect hackers who hooked up the motion control device up to computers, but now sources are saying that Microsoft wants to officially bring Kinect to PC gaming.
Game developer GamePrix has reported one of its upcoming PC titles, called Divine Soul, is "scheduled to support Kinect."
GamePrix's Jason Lim also said, "Kinect will soon be available as a new PC controller."
This comes as quite a surprise to the game industry, partly because there has been no indication of this and partly because it would seem likely Microsoft would work with larger developers to launch Kinect games for computers.
Support for Kinect gaming on computers could seriously increase the appeal of Microsoft's motion sensor. It could mean PC gamers could enjoy motion gaming without needing to purchase a console .
There's a distinct possibility that GamePrix's Kinect ambitions might not be a Microsoft initiative though. It could be that Microsoft's laissez-faire attitude toward Kinect hacking has led to the developer creating an unofficial PC version of Kinect games .
Microsoft has yet to comment on these developments.
