Videos Tease ASUS Tablet in Near Future
As the tablet race gets crowded ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show, ASUS has released a video teasing the tablet it will be bringing to CES. It's the first look at the 12-inch Eee Slate … if the Eee Slate were made of chalk.
Or maybe drawing it on a slate is supposed to be a subtle pun?
Either way, ASUS gives a much firmer idea of what its Windows 7 tablet will be like, with clear claims about media, social networks and productivity. The video above even indicates that it will allow for stylus input while still accepting multitouch finger gestures.
There are few other details except that the tablet will run on the Intel Core i5 processor, which is remarkably powerful compared to the processors seen in competitor tablets. The upshot is that Core i5 has a proven track record running Windows 7, which hasn't had a lot of success as a tablet operating system yet.
Rumors indicate that ASUS expects the EP121, as its known officially, to aim specifically for enterprise markets, which explains Windows 7 and the emphasis on productivity. There is no price but the EP121 is expected to go on sale in January.
This won't be the only ASUS tablet to show up at CES next month, though. As ASUS CEO Jonney Shih says in the video, there's an "Eee for everyone." ASUS has said it will bring 7-, 9-, 10- and 12-inch tablets to show off at the trade show. Some are expected to run Windows 7 while others will run Android on NVIDIA Tegra 2 processors.
