Just how big would you want your 3-D TV to be, hypothetically speaking? 50 inches? Sure. 60 inches? Okay. 70 inches? That's no problem either, if you buy from Vizio.
Vizio has decided to go big with its latest announcement that the company will offer 3-D TVs in an abnormally large array of sizes, from 22 to 71 inches.
For most consumers, the more they run past 50 inches the harder it is for them to meet the limits of their budget and living room size. But that didn't stop Vizio from breaking the 70-inch barrier for 3-D TVs.
Size isn't the only choice consumers will make. The 21 models in the Vizio Theater 3D TV line will also come in LED edge-lit and back-lit varieties, as well as versions with the Yahoo! Widgets included.
One of the biggest benefits of the Theater 3D TV line is in the glasses. Vizio has gone with passive polarized 3-D glasses instead of the active shutter kind. That makes the glasses far cheaper, doesn't require batteries and removes the need for an IR-sensor on top of the TV. Overall, it should make entry into 3-D home entertainment more affordable for consumers.
"Users immediately experience a brighter picture, no flicker, less crosstalk, and the comfortable glasses enabling them to enjoy the content without the technology getting in the way. And by making this next generation 3D affordable VIZIO aims to fulfill our brand promise of Entertainment Freedom for All," said Matthew McRae, VIZIO Chief Technology Officer, in a company statement.
Vizio has not announced a release date or pricing for these 3-D TVs, but more information will likely be available at the Consumer Electronics Show later this week.
