While the obsessively rumored Verizon iPhone has arrived officially as of today (Jan. 11), another even more elusive creature still haunts the tech waters — the white iPhone 4.
Earlier today, visitors to Verizon's new product page who clicked for more details on the iPhone 4 could for a time see a white iPhone — now vanished — under the "Tech Specs" tab. Before being disappeared by the Apple and Verizon powers-that-be, the white iPhone 4 was captured by the blog Macstories in the above screen grab – a rare bird caught on film before flying away.
Apple has long offered its products in a clean, sterile white, in contrast to other computer- and phone-makers who more often make their products in solemn-looking grays and no-nonsense blacks.
When the iPhone 4 launched last summer, it initially was available only in black, but a white version was to follow shortly thereafter. Then strange delays set in. For example, Apple copped to manufacturing issues overseas that would delay the availability of the white iPhone until an unspecified time later in the year.
A fresh peek at the mythical white beast came again in October during a simple update of the Apple Store app.
At the Verizon iPhone announcement today (Jan. 11) in Manhattan, no mention was made of the unreleased white iPhone becoming incarnate. But if this new sighting is any indication, it shan't be long until the yin and yang balance of black and white is established in the iPhone universe.
