AT&T Launching Cell Phone Trade-in Program
AT&T will rollout a new service allowing customers to trade-in old cell phones, including phones from other networks.
According to a source for Boy Genius Network, AT&T will offer this program starting Jan. 23. Much like making a trade-in deal when buying a car, AT&T will assess the worth of your current phone and apply that against the price of a new phone if you decide to take the offer. AT&T will even cut a check for the trade-in value if you would prefer to just have the money and pay full price for a new phone.
AT&T has added a classy twist, too. If customers so desire, they can have the trade-in value of their current phone donated to charity (AT&T will make the donation on your behalf). It's not clear if AT&T will try to resell some of the phones , although the source says AT&T will dispose of unwanted phones in "an environmentally friendly manner."
It's not clear if AT&T will have restrictions on the type or age of phones eligible for the trade-in program, and it also remains unknown how AT&T will assess their value.
