Nintendo 3DS Will Be $249 on March 27
Nintendo finally revealed the most important details about its 3-D handheld console, the Nintendo 3DS, Wednesday. It will be available at retail outlets on March 27 for $249.
The Nintendo 3DS was officially announced clear back in June 2010 , and while details have slowly trickled out since then, Nintendo has been very quiet about the actual release.
The 3DS is quite similar in form factor to the Nintendo DSi, and it will even be backwards compatible with original DS and DSi games. The Nintendo 3DS is capable of displaying 3DS-specific games in three dimensions without glasses , which is a key factor for portable media. Nintendo said there will be over thirty 3DS games available at launch or shortly thereafter.
While the 3DS has suffered through some bad press about potential health concerns for young players (and the unexpected backlash from eye specialists who said there wasn't any danger after all), it will still be able to play games in the traditional 2-D view. A special slider along the side adjusts the depth of the perceived playing field from 2-D all the way to 3-D.
The Nintendo 3DS will be available through many major retail outlets on March 27, and it will come in aqua blue and cosmo black colors.
