Motorola Xoom Super Bowl Ad Lampoons Apple 1984 Ad
It's a commentary on the power of the Super Bowl commercial that Motorola has created a commercial to advertise a forthcoming commercial. And Motorola isn't being timid, either. The company is taking on the famous Apple 1984 ad, saying that "2011 looks a lot like 1984."
Building up to a huge campaign for the Motorola Xoom Android tablet , which the company hopes will be an iPad-killer, Motorola has released the teaser above. A faded planet with the iconic white iPod earbuds rotates behind derisive statements such as "one authority, one design, one way to work." Then the commercial says consumers deserve and want more choices, implying the Xoom can give them that.
Motorola has been taking several potshots at Apple recently as it plans for the release of the Xoom tablet . This is perhaps the boldest one yet, equating Apple's tight control over its devices to the very Big Brother entity it claimed to be fighting in its original Super Bowl ad (watch it below).
The Motorola Xoom certainly has some impressive features, and the Android 3.0 Honeycomb interface certainly looks like a dream to use on a tablet-size screen, but it remains to be seen whether it deserves all the hyperbole Motorola is heaping on it.
