Facebook Expands Local Deals Service
Facebook is making it easier for shoppers in the U.S. and various other countries worldwide to find discounts from local businesses with the expansion of its Deals service.
Although Facebook Deals has been available in the United States since November, it launched this week in Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.
Facebook Deals is an extension of Facebook Places , which allows users to tell their friends where they are and what they are doing. When out on the town and looking for a restaurant, grocer or a store to pick up a gift for a friend, users can "check in" via Facebook Places on their handheld mobile device to see what businesses are offering deals nearby.
If a business is offering a deal, a small icon will appear next to it to indicate a discount is available. The icon can also be tapped to reveal more information about the deal. A list of local discounts can also be viewed at Facebook.com/Deals.
Users can also find and share deals with their friends on Facebook.
