Yahoo Readies 'Digital Newsstand' App for iPad
Yahoo doesn't want Murdoch's new Daily iPad news publication to have all the fun. The company just announced its Livestand app, a "digital newsstand" for tablets and smartphones.
Yahoo said Livestand will appear on tablets first, but that smartphones would follow. It's different than The Daily, though, in that it seems it will allow multiple publishers to display their content, hence the newsstand analogy.
Livestand is supposed to be a highly personalized app for each user, Yahoo says. It claims that publishers and advertisers alike will be able to tailor their content to each user, while users themselves will be able to personalize content to their interests.
"The more you use it, the more it gets to know you," says the Livestand promo site.
There is no release date yet, and Yahoo did not announce any publishing partners or confirm specific content. Yahoo promo images show Livestand running on both Android and iPads, so it’s likely that the app will be available on multiple platforms.
