Samsung to Unveil 8.9-Inch Galaxy Tab Model
Apparently a 7-inch tablet and a 10.1-inch tablet aren't enough for Samsung because the company now plans to produce an 8.9-inch version.
A Samsung spokesman told a Korean news agency that it would manufacture a middle-size tablet soon. According to other Korean sources, the 8.9-inch tablet could be ready for launch as soon as March.
The news does match Samsung statements last year about three tablet sizes in 7, 8 and 10 inches. The question still remains, however, if an 8.9-inch tablet is different enough to distinguish itself. Ten inches is becoming the standard for most tablets, and 7-inch tablets seem to fill a niche for people who want a smaller form factor. But it remains to be seen if the 8.9-inch model appeals to consumers.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 was announced at Mobile World Congress only earlier this month. Though it is scheduled for an Asian launch in March, there's not even a set release date for American shores.
