Video: Watch the Meteoric Rise of Android-Powered Devices
Android has had a good run recently.
The mobile operating system created by Google became the top-selling smartphone platform in 2010, catapulting past Apple and BlackBerry. Android also powers popular non-iPad tablet computers such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab .
Developers at Google made the above video as a pretty way of visualizing the growth of their Android baby since late 2008. Colorful spikes show the surge in activations in various countries after the launch of popular handsets such as the Motorola Droid and the Samsung Galaxy S.
The video is also a nifty geography tool – as the video goes on to zoom in on continents, see if you can name the major metropolitan areas in the United States and elsewhere that have a Technicolor filament shooting out of them.
