iPhone 5 Redesign Rumors: Aluminum Back Cover, New Antenna
The glass back cover on the iPhone 4 may not be the solution Apple thought it was. New rumors indicate Apple will return to aluminum back covers for the iPhone 5 and will move the antenna to help prevent another "Antennagate."
A Chinese source reported in Chinese media that Apple will bring back the aluminum covers seen on the original iPhone in 2007. The complaints about the glass easily scratching or breaking have led the company to reconsider the iPhone 4 design changes. This move would also alleviate problems that have continuously postponed the release of the white iPhone 4.
The infamous iPhone 4 antenna will also be redesigned for the iPhone 5 . The debacle caused by poor reception created a lot of bad press for Apple, so it's hardly surprising that the company would make some changes.
Finally, the source also said Apple might use the new A5 dual-core processor unveiled for the iPad 2 in the new iPhone 5. While also unconfirmed, this rumor has been speculated by several industry experts. The precedent is already set: The original iPad and the iPhone 4 use the same A4 processor.
