Sprint in Talks to Buy T-Mobile USA, Sources Say
Sometimes the best way to win a battle is to just call a truce. That seems to be T-Mobile's tactic in the phone network wars as it is considering a sale to Sprint
T-Mobile USA is actually part of a German telecommunications company predictably called Deutsche Telekom, and Sprint is in talks with Deutsche Telekom, Bloomberg sources say, to acquire T-Mobile USA.
The current U.S. network battle could be described as a four-horse race, with Verizon and AT&T far out ahead of Sprint and T-Mobile (in terms of subscription numbers). If Sprint acquired T-Mobile USA, it would make it a three-horse race and give Sprint a significant boost.
Don't think that Deutsche Telekom would walk away empty-handed, though. The deal being discussed would give Deutsche Telekom up to a 50 percent stake in the combined company, making it a major part of the suddenly larger network.
Apparently talks aren't finished because there is some debate over the actual value of T-Mobile USA (independent analysts say T-Mobile USA may be worth $15 billion to $20 billion), but if such a merger did happen, it would significantly change the mobile competition in America.
