Verizon Readies Xoom for Flash Update … Later
Verizon announced that the Motorola Xoom will receive an update today (March 11) that will enable the Honeycomb tablet to run Adobe Flash. The problem is that Flash won't be ready until next week.
Verizon's software update will make the Motorola Xoom compatible with Adobe Flash Player 10.2, which will allow the tablet to access Internet content usually accessible only to computers. The vast majority of video and animated sites run with Flash, limiting the Xoom's browsing capabilities until it becomes Flash-compatible.
The update won't do much yet, though, because Adobe won't have Flash Player 10.2 ready for the Android Market until March 18. The feature is already late; Verizon initially promised the Xoom would have Flash at launch.
The Xoom update will also include other minor tweaks to the system, including clock adjustments to handle daylight saving time.
