Firefox 4 Launch Set for March 22
The next evolution in Mozilla's Firefox Web browser is nearly ready for release. Mozilla says Firefox 4 will officially launch March 22.
The first version of Mozilla Firefox came out in 2004, and since then it has become one of the three most popular browsers .
Firefox 4 will add new features, a slightly tweaked user interface and better security. One of the most anticipated features is GPU-accelerated browsing for Windows, meaning Firefox 4 can use the PC's built-in graphics processor to speed up rendering for graphics, video and animation. Other improvements include better support for CSS3 and HTML5 standards and multitouch support for use on touch-screen devices.
Mozilla released the RC1 version of Firefox 4 (basically the last test version before the official release) March 9. Unless there are unforeseen problems with RC1 before March 22, it is likely to be the final version at the official launch. So people who don't want to wait until March 22 can go download Firefox 4 RC1 right now. Firefox 4 is available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
