Nintendo Wii 2 to Debut at E3 in June
Nintendo released a statement confirming rumors about the successor to the popular Wii game console. Nintendo announced it will have working models of the Wii 2 to show the public at the E3 gaming expo in June.
The term "Wii 2" isn't an official name. For now Nintendo is calling it "Wii's Successor System."
Nintendo (PDF) said the new console will be available in 2012 , but it did not specify a date or the price.
The Electronic Entertainment Expo is scheduled for June 7-9 in Los Angeles. Nintendo promised that playable models of the Wii 2 will be available there, along with more information about specs and hardware.
The rumored specs indicate the Wii 2 will be much more powerful than the current model as Nintendo aims to compete with the powerful consoles from Microsoft and Sony.
Leaked images of a "Screen Stream" controller show that the Wii 2 will come with a traditional console controller (as opposed to the motion-sensing Wiimote) that has 6-inch touchscreen embedded in it.
