Hands-On: Angry Birds Available for Download on Chrome Web Store

As was just announced at Google I/O, Angry Birds has finally made its way to Chrome. No doubt droves of Rovio fans have already scored themselves the free download from the Chrome Web Store. To get a sneak peak of what to expect on the desktop version, read our impressions after a few minutes of slinging and squawking.
Available in both SD and HD versions, the game will be cached for offline usage. From the Angry Birds app, users can click through to an Angry Birds cinematic trailer and the game’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
We were immediately impressed with how seamlessly this game translates to the mouse-and-desktop format. Slinging birds with our cursor was a cinch. Breezing through the easy first levels was even quicker than on our smartphone. Additionally, audio quality is top-notch; we were able to appreciate the sound of the birds and falling bricks much more than on our handset. Users can zoom in and out with a mouse’s scroller; notebook users can accomplish the same with the touchpad.
If you don’t own a Mac (where the game is currently available for desktop use) or simply haven’t given the desktop version a whirl, do yourself a favor and nab the download via the Chrome Web Store. It’s so much fun, it has us wondering if it will be free for long.
