Nvidia told us back at Mobile World Congress that its blazing quad-core Kal-El processor would be hitting tablets by August, and it looks like Amazon might be one of the first customers in line. According to Boy Genius Report, Amazon is prepping a premium tablet codenamed Hollywood based on the chip. As we reported previously, Kal-El (T30) promises double the CPU performance and three times the graphics performance of today’s Tegra 2 CPU and supports up to 2560 x 1600 resolution.
The Hollywood tablet will apparently join an entry-level slate from Amazon codenamed Coyote powered by Tegra 2. Between Amazon’s music, book, and video stores, its new Cloud Player service, and its growing Appstore, Amazon might have the best shot at taking on the iPad 2. Stay tuned for more details as they surface.
