Putting Your iPad Movie on the Big Screen
You want to watch that movie on your iPad on the big screen, but don't want to connect long cables to the TV. What to do?
A lot of wireless device-to-television devices are expensive (some run to $1,000). But Eric Govoruhk and Kelly McAteer, two tinkerers, have found that it's easy to build your own.
They used an Apple Digital AV Adapter to get video from the iPad to a wireless HDMI transmitter. That sends the video to a wireless receiver connected to the TV. Total cost: about $275.
Govoruhk and McAteer bought components so they could build a self-contained device, but if you don’t want to tinker that much you can just tape them to the back of your iPad (or, for movie watching, leave it on the table).
