Waterproof Your iPhone

iPhones and water don't mix. In fact, one in five people has lost their smartphone contacts by dropping it in the toilet.
The solution? A waterproof case. The question is which one. That depends on what you need it for. Just protecting from the occasional splash? A simple sleeve will usually do. But if you plan on diving, snorkeling or just being around a pool, the cases get more elaborate.
Proporta, for example, makes a case that it says is waterproof to 5 meters down. It makes another that, while only waterproof to 3 meters, allows you to take photos underwater with a hard-shell portion that also protects against impacts. The Joy Factory makes one called the Rainballet which is designed for less rugged use, for example if you fall into a pool while making a call.
Most of the cases are in the $50 range, but given that an unlocked iPhone will sell for ten times that, it may be a worthwhile investment.
