App Brings Voice Recognition to iPad

The best part about apps is that they expand functionality in devices like the iPad. The latest iPad app from Nuance Communications, maker of acclaimed voice recognition software Dragon Naturally Speaking, will do just that by allowing users to control the iPad and write text with their voices.
Dragon Dictation for iPad can recognize speech and translate it into text for emails, documents, notes and other apps.
"The iPad is a unique and remarkable device, and with the Dragon Dictation App users can experience added flexibility and convenience as they quickly convert speech into text," said Michael Thompson, senior vice president and general manager of Nuance Mobile, in a statement.
The iPad only comes with an on-screen keyboard unless users purchase a separate keyboard dock. Sentiments about on-screen keyboards range anywhere from "I like it" to "I loathe it." For those in the latter category, or even people somewhere in between, having an alternative to typing on the screen is a real benefit.
Nuance says that using Dragon Dictation is also much faster than typing, up to 5 times faster. The larger screen of the iPad allows Dragon Dictation more room for other features that the iPhone and iPod Touch versions of the app don't have, such as Dragon Dictation Notes, which allows users to speak and save drafts of documents, emails, to-do lists, social media status updates, and more.
