Samsung's ChatON Offers Free Texting for iOS, Android and BlackBerry
Paying for unlimited texting could become a thing of the past if Samsung's new messaging service, ChatON, takes off. The new service offers free texting, chat and image-sharing for iOS, Android and BlackBerry phones.
ChatON will be available for more than just smartphones. There will be a simpler version for feature phones, while smartphones will enjoy extra features, including the ability to comment on friends' profiles and show more information about contacts. In this way, the ChatON service almost functions as a minimal social network.
But it's certain to be the free texting , image sharing and video sharing that will be the biggest draw for users, especially those who are finding it hard to stay within the limits of their phone contract.
ChatON, which will roll out in September, will be available in 120 countries and 62 languages. Samsung also plans to make a version for the PC so ChatON users can send and receive messages on their computer as well.
Keep in mind that while using the ChatON service is free, for those who don't have data plans, the service might incur other kinds of charges, even if it saves you on texts .
