Invisible Leash Keeps Your iPhone Secure
The tethers you see on desktops and laptops have been a fixture since the Clinton administration. But what of smartphones? If you lose one it can be a real problem given the data on your phone. Business customers have to worry even more.
Well, fear not. Kensington, the same company that gave us those lovable tethers, has now developed a radio-frequency version for smartphones. Right now it is only for the iPhone 4 , but other models will follow. Called the BungeeAir Power Secure, it consists of an iPhone case and a key chain fob. Step away from your phone and the fob starts vibrating and beeping and your phone locks down. You can start using it again with your password as usual once you retrieve it.
The whole thing even works in reverse. How many of us have spent 15 minutes searching for the keys? This way your iPhone can help you find them by causing the fob to vibrate or beep. The whole thing costs $99.99, but when yo consider that an unlocked iPhone is $500 at least, that seems cheap.
