UPS will launch a new service for customers designed to reduce those pesky missed-delivery notices stuck to doors across America. Beginning Oct. 3, UPS My Choice will send text, email or phone alerts a day in advance of deliveries and include a 4-hour delivery window.
UPS hopes its new service will eliminate most of the frustrations associated with deliveries, including missing packages, worrying about packages left outside, trekking to a depot to retrieve missed packages, waiting all day for a package or counting on others to sign for a package.
The new Internet-based service includes more perks for users and comes in two levels: one free, one paid.
Free UPS My Choice lets members receive alerts and allows a member to electronically release packages that would ordinarily require a signature upon delivery. They can also reschedule delivery for another day. For $5 per package, members can reroute a package to a UPS store for pick-up or to another address.
Premium members pay $40 a year and can leave specific instructions for the driver to leave a package in a certain location, such as the back door, deck or with a concierge . The $5 fee is waived when a premium member elects to reroute a package. Further, premium members may specify a 2-hour delivery window for $5 per shipment.
