iPhone App Puts "Social" Into Networking

You're at a party and you're supposed to be making friends (you have to save some time for real life , after all), drumming up new business or even job hunting. How do you know how to go about it? Is the guy you are talking to really someone who could be a potential customer or contact? And who is that person across the room?
Sonar, for the iPhone on the App Store, can answer these questions -- and help avoid a certain amount of awkwardness in the process. What it does is check certain locations to see who is there through tools such as Foursquare , and then checks if the people there are connected to you through various social networks. So you can tell if that person you are seeing at an event once went to the same school or is a mutual friend with another connection on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter .
Aside from the obvious networking benefit, it can certainly help when introducing yourself -- no need to ask about the usual commonalities or "what do you do?"
