Roku today (Oct. 11) announced its most affordable set-top box yet, the $50 Roku LT with more than 300 streaming media channels. The wireless, palm-size device offers Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant Video, Pandora, EPIX, Crackle, Disney, and the new HBO GO for HBO subscribers.
The Roku LT streams 720p high-definition video and features built-in wireless. The big question is what has Roku cut from its newest device? The LT lacks the microSD card slot and Bluetooth connectivity of the other Roku models that range from $60 to $100.
If you plan to pair it with a smaller HDTV under 50 inches, the lower resolution compared with Roku’s 1080p full HD models, will probably not be noticeable. At $50, it’s an affordable way to put the smarts into your HDTV.
The Roku LT will be available from Roku.com, Amazon.com and in retail stores nationwide beginning in early November.
