New App Lets Users Track Workouts Using GPS Technology
GPS navigation company Garmin has unveiled its first fitness app that allows users to track metrics such as speed, distance and burned calories through smartphone GPS technology.
Garmin Fit, available for $0.99 for an Android and iOS, keeps track of workouts and automatically uploads data to Garmin Connect, a free online community where users can set and track goals and share workouts with friends.
The app also allows users to view and answer incoming calls and text messages without interrupting the service.
Garmin also introduced an adapter that lets exercisers use ANT+ sensors and accessories – such as a heart rate monitor, foot pod and speed/cadence sensor – with the app. The ANT+ adapter is $49.99.
